RTA Hiking Club

The RTA hiking club meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays from October to mid-May. Our goal is to enjoy the beautiful outdoors with active people age 60+!

Our hikes are for everyone who can walk four miles comfortably. These are gentle hikes, unless we tell you something different in advance. We leave no one behind! If you prefer to “burn up” the trail, good for you, and keep it up!! These hikes are not for you.

Hike details will be posted here about one week before hike day.

Next Wednesday, March 8, we will hike the beautiful Sutherland Trail from Catalina State Park. We will hike up the trail for 2.5 miles and turn around, for a total of five miles. This has some climbing, but is not a difficult hike. If you continue and complete the entire trail, it is a 12-mile hike and is rated 5 of 5 in difficulty. We will not be doing that. There are a few water crossings, but they are navigable…with poles. 🙂

Admission to the park is $7 per car, unless you have an annual pass. FYI, your pass for Sabino Canyon is a national park pass, and will not work in this state park. They will give you a map at the entrance. Drive to the trail head at end of the road (about 1.5 miles), where you will see a large parking lot on your left. We will meet there.
